Resources for contractors and vendors
Contractors can contact their project manager to schedule training and initiate the site access procedure.

Environment, Safety and Health (ESH) training classifications are required to receive the Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF) Identification Access Badge:

  • SURF Orientation Training is required for any person performing work on the surface or underground.
  • General Safety Basic class is provided monthly by the SURF.
  • Job-task or site specific training for contractors working at SURF is conducted by the contractor's employer or ESH staff.

SURF may review and approve any training received off site.

Steps to Get a SURF ID Access Badge

  1. If you are a Long Baseline Neutrino Facility (LBNF) contractor, complete the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (FNAL) ID process prior to arriving at SURF; otherwise, go to Step 2.
  2. Ask sponsor to complete a SURF Access Request Form.
  3. Review Visitor information on the SURF website prior to arriving at the facility.
  4. Take the required training when notified (your sponsor will contact you).
  5. Check in at the Yates Admin Building Front Desk and collect your SURF ID Access Badge after training is completed.
